Blog 1
Hello, and welcome to the blog.
Languages. There are many things I like to read about, but one of them is my favorite, and it is languages. I have a couple primary languages that I’ve been studying, and to which I am fully devoted. But outside of them, there are others which every now and then pull my attention, especially when I am getting tired from the strain of learning the primary ones. It is so with my mind: I get tired from so much studying, but I can’t stop doing it, and I turn to other subjects in order to “take a rest” from the ones I’ve been learning. The fact is that I like systems of symbols, and their intellectual analysis. And languages have come to be my favorite kind.
Ancient languages. Not only do I love learning about languages, different cultures and ways of seeing the world, but I like to learn how the ancients did it, and to open up a world of sacred texts that have influenced the history of ideas from the remote past. So, even though modern languages offer more social and potentially economic dividends over ancient languages, my most romantic disposition leans me towards the latter. So it is that those languages I ‘dabble’ in for fun are precisely those ancient languages that I am most interested in.
